Hewlett Packard LaserJet 6L Printer – Amazingly Affordable For Small Office Use

The extremely affordable HP LaserJet 6L printer seems to be designed to bring maximum pleasure to those looking for a Hewlett-Packard printer that comes at a low price, yet is full of the features that are prized by many laser printer enthusiasts. This includes good printing speed to go with durability and HP reliability. Additionally, print quality from the HP LaserJet 6L replacement toners is also another attractive feature of this model.

Hewlett-Packard has recently discontinued the 6L, but it’s worthwhile to note that while it was in production as a 6-series printer, Hewlett-Packard included a number of capabilities that helped to make it more of a personal-type printer and less of a workgroup-specific model. This is more due to its relatively low print speed capability rather than anything else.

This particular laser printer can kick out six pages per minute, which still exceeds the capability of almost any inkjet or other type of printer out there. The six black-and-white pages per minute that can be produced by the 6L will also come out looking more than acceptable at 600 dots per inch using HP LaserJet laser toners, which means there will be little to complain about when it comes to the quality of the print job.

As far as connectivity goes, it’s purely standard Hewlett-Packard in that it’s connected via hard-wire and by use of a traditional (and older) parallel port. There is no USB capability with this particular printer, but at about $70 for a new one — if it can be found — that hardly seems to be something that would concern most people looking for a bargain laser jet printer.

There’s only one megabyte of memory available and the LaserJet 6L can’t be upgraded much past 9 MB in total. Of course, this Hewlett-Packard will share processing power with the computer to which it’s connected, so that is also nothing to become overly concerned with. Everything will be controlled by a standard 24 MHz processor, which also helps to explain somewhat why it prints out at six pages in a minute.

Storage capacity is enough, at 100 sheets of paper. All of it fits into one tray, which can accommodate a number of different kinds of media stock, including envelopes, labels, transparencies and plain paper. The range of paper sizes it can print out on is fairly nice, given the low price that the Hewlett-Packard will go for.

This particular Hewlett-Packard is also fairly durable, featuring a monthly duty cycle of about 6,000 pages. When one takes into account that a low price is delivering that high duty cycle, the printer then becomes even more impressive. It also has a print cartridge rated for 2,500 sheets before needing replacement. This personal printer, therefore, will have a very low cost-per-printed-page ratio.

The HP LaserJet 6L printer can also make use of a few different operating system platforms, including Windows NT 4.0, IBM OS/2 and Microsoft DOS. Given that it has a nice level of durability, and a cartridge that can print out quite a few sheets, it’s hard to find much to dislike about this particular HP printer. This is especially so when one looks at the $70 average price for a new unit.

When you find one, or if you still own one, replacing the LaserJet 6L compatible toner might be a concern.  With the standard of quality of Hewlett-Packard, however, many e-retailers stock HP printer toner cartridges along with many other brands of toner cartridges, available at a great price at your convenience.
